For those of you who may not have known, Heather and I went to Alaska for our honeymoon. We had to wait until August to go, because the package I wanted was the right price and available at that time. It turned out great, since it probably would have been too overwhelming to get married and then turn around and travel for twelve hours to Alaska.

So we are back now, and several people have requested to see pictures. I am still in the process of sorting through my 1,900 pictures I took, but I have some of them online now.

As usual, visit my Picasaweb page to see my pictures. There are several different locations in Alaska we visiting over the two week period.

I tried looking for a job up there, but tech jobs don’t seem to be too in demand. :)

I’d just like to make a short post to congratulate myself on taking multiple backups of my computer and to reiterate the neccessity of backups. My ITunes library decided to corrupt itself for no particular reason. It would have stunk if I needed to recreate the library.

I have three different levels of back up support on my computer, but I only pay for one of them. Let me explain what I do:

  • Vista Shadow Copies - If you run Vista, you have shadow copies of your files and folders created. Vista makes little snapshots of your drives once a day. This is on by default. To use it, right click on the folder in which you want to restore files, and you will see a Previous Versions tab. Choose the folder in time you want to go back to and copy the files you need. That’s what I just used.
  • Next up, I use Vista’s Backup program to backup my computer once a week. This is good in case my whole drive died. I wouldn’t have access to any of my files, but I have a separate copy of them on another drive.
  • And finally, I use Mozy, an on-line backup service. I paid for a two year subscription to copy all my pertinent files to an off site location. In the event something catastrophic happened here, I can still recover my files from their remote site. And you can imagine they make backup copies of my backup copies.

Heather and I had a great wedding, and I wanted to write a brief bit about the vendors we used to help make it possible…

  • Leicester Country Club - We worked Judy at LCC the entire time, and she was great. We enjoyed her candor in working with her and appreciated her suggestions toward our event.
  • Ericson Photo - Ericson was exactly what we were looking for in a photographer. We wanted some traditional and some non traditional. It worked out great because Ericson actually utilizes two photographers at the wedding and reception with two different takes on the pictures… one traditional and one journalistic. Steven and Candi were great to work with. Steven moved us to exactly where he wanted us to go for each picture.
  • Davagian Video Productions - David was awesome to work with. He is very knowlegable of his equipment used to shoot and edit and our finished work is something we will cherish for a lifetime.
  • Champagne Toast Entertainment - Greg was our DJ and was great in reading what the crowd was into for music. He helped provide some vocal background to keep the crowd in it during our first dance and cutting the cake.
  • Custom Wedding Cakes by Penny - Penny created a delicious custom wedding cake for us. I also indulged in many free samples in making our decision.
  • Regis Limousine - Our drivers went above and beyond the duty to make sure our special day was perfect. One of the drivers helped the groomsmen and I get our tuxes in order, and the other limo driver held my wife’s train in the back of the church the entire time from when they got there till when the ceremony started.

FireFox LogoI have officially switched over to using Firefox 3.0. Why did I make this change? I like the overwhelming amount of features that Firefox provides that I can’t get from Internet Explorer. The problem I have had with switching from Internet Explorer to Firefox has been that I am a developer using Internet Explorer. Well, I learned of something called IE Tab, which allows me to run an Internet Explorer instance within Firefox. This is incredibly helpful because I essentially have the best of both worlds.

I had been contemplating switching in the past couple of weeks because of things like Stylish, which allow me to change the color of web sites like Google to something with a little more eye candy. Google irritates my eyes with its stark white background.

Many people have asked for them already, and we just got them delivered to us this evening. If you are interested in viewing all the available pictures on-line, please click here. When you visit this page, it will ask for a password. It is “ericson” in all lowercase.

I will post more about wedding stuff soon, but it is very late in the evening now, and the last two toothpicks I am using to keep my eyelids open just snapped in half.
